Our History

The term “federally qualified health center” (FQHC) was first used in 1989 to describe a community health center that provides comprehensive services on a sliding fee scale and qualifies for funding under section 330 of the public health service act. In 1991, they were added as an important medicare benefit. they were later added as a part of medicaid as well. In 2010, they were included in the Affordable Care Act to acknowledge the importance of primary health care to medically underserved areas or to underserved patients living across the country.

PrimeCare Health started out as an FQHC look-alike, meaning it met phs section 330 eligibility requirements but did not receive grant funding. it became an fqhc in 1999.
