Medication-Assisted Treatment

Offering patients a path to recovery.

What is Medication-Assisted Treatment?

The Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program is for anyone struggling with alcohol or opioid use and is interested in medication management for it. Our treatments include Suboxone (Buprenorphine/Naloxone) for opioid use and Vivitrol (naltrexone) for alcohol use. We also assist with connecting patients to additional services as needed, including behavioral health support, withdrawal management, intensive outpatient treatment, and mutual self-help groups.

What are the benefits of Suboxone treatment?

Benefits of Suboxone (Buprenorphine/Naloxone) Treatment:

  • Treats withdrawal symptoms

  • Prevents relapses through cutting down cravings

  • Blocks the effect of heroin or other opioids preventing the rewards of using

  • Prescribed in an outpatient primary care setting with weekly to monthly follow-ups

What are the benefits of Vivitrol treatment?

Vivitrol is a monthly injection that can be used for either alcohol use disorder, or in some cases for opioid use disorder.

  • Improves medication adherence by eliminating the need to take a medication daily

  • Prevents relapses through cutting down cravings for alcohol/opioids

  • Prescribed in an outpatient primary care setting with weekly to monthly follow-up appointments

  • Blocks the effect of heroin or other opioids, preventing the rewards of using (when used for opioid use)

The Peer Support Program is part of PrimeCare’s larger effort to address substance use as a health issue, not as a weakness or moral failing. By partnering you with someone who has lived with substance use disorder, the program creates a welcoming space for healing that meets people where they are.

What is the Peer Support Program?

Our Peer Support Specialist shares information about recovery options, helps people schedule health appointments, and offers consistent, compassionate support without pressure. Through these connections, individuals are linked to PrimeCare’s full range of services, including medical care, behavioral health support, and treatment referrals.
